It was my first day at university. I was rather nervous at the time, as I was afraid that my rather tumultuous upbringing would be brought up and become a talking point for months to come.
Frankly I didn't want to socialise with anyone.
The reason I even chose this university was because of my grandmother's declining health. She was raising me for the longest time after all. I'm indebted to her.
And yet, I'm not even that particularly stellar academically. I got there purely by some sort of fluke.
I feel like I don't belong here.
"Calling Taira-san for introduction..."
Oh shit.
"H-Hello. My name is Denjirou Taira (平・伝時朗). Glad to make your acquaintance."
They all just blankly stared at me. I guess it did happen many years ago, so many won't remember it - especially by my peers. My family name isn't too unique either, so I suppose it was buried beneath the sands of time.
Still, there was this one person who stood out the most. It was a girl, seemingly of a richer roots. She seems oddly inquisitive.
Her hair was neatly combed, with one lock tied with a ribbon.
And the eyes...
They were dark blue. Like I'm looking into the ocean.
It felt like I'm looking at a gemstone among the rough.
"You may sit down, Taira-san."
Damn it. I embarrassed myself like a fool here...
Hurrying to my seat and burying my head into my arms, the girl looked at me and gave me an encouraging comment.
"You did great, Taira-san!"
Eventually - her turn comes as well.
"Greetings everyone. My name is Yukino Minamoto (源・夢姫之). Glad to make your acquaintance."
What a pretty name... Unorthodox, yet pretty.
She returns to her seat and in my awkwardness, I repaid her with a compliment of mine
"You did great too, Minamoto-san."
Her cheeks turned slightly pink and she averted her gaze.
"You're too much of a gentleman, Taira-san..."
That was the start of our relationship.
