秋奇妙夢玄 (Autumn Bizarre Dream Mystery) ~ Earthen Hare and Moon Rabbit
Chapter 7

The pair find themselves in a shared dream once more, but instead of a Land of Wonderglass, it's a seemingly hollow palace. Without understanding why, the pair began to advance through palace to meet at a "common" point.

They don't know why they're supposed to meet at that place, but they must. Their feet carry them from room to room, from hall to hall.

And eventually they find a room. In it a lone woman is sitting down, looking at the bright moon with a sorrowful expression through the balcony.

"Huh? Haven't I told him to not let anyone from the outside to come in here?" The woman asked, her gaze still affixed to the moon.

"My apologies, ma'am - we kinda just got here and tried to meet with each other." The girl started. The woman then took a look at both of the "uninvited guests" and sighed.

"I don't know how much longer I can wait for that moment." She remarked. The girl was perplexed, while the man immediately clocked in what the woman was talking about. For his disregard of the fantasy, he can recall partially the tales of his own land as a part of the curriculum.

"... It's the moon, right?" He asked and the woman nodded "Indeed. I'm spending my last days on this 'impure' land."

"Impure?" The girl asked.

"People of the moon and people of the earth are fundamentally different and cannot co-exist for long. To the people of the moon, earth is bound by impurities - by what makes earth people - people. Blood, flesh, tears, grime - that's what makes what you call "humans" impure, to us "lunarians" it is associated with death; and once something is marred - it cannot be undone; let alone be unmade."

"Indeed. Try as they might, humans cannot be fully cleansed of the impurities." The man agrees, which causes the girl to question the logic behind the impurity.

"But, uhm, if you're lunarian, aren't you happy to be away from the impurity surrounding you?"

"... The thing is, the moment I stepped onto this earth - I have become impure. My earthly grandparents took me in and cherished me as their own, and once I became of age - the people began to fawn over my beauty. I did not care for their advances and sent them on impossible quests. The only person who had remotely interested me besides my grandparents was the emperor. I did not care for his affections - but it is his genuine heart that remained despite his status is what made me feel fond of him.

I would've been content living with him and my parents, but the lunarians need me. They can't let one of their own be contaminated any longer."

The woman then took a deep breath she could muster before giving a heartbreaking revelation.

"Once they'll take me away - I'll be forced to forget about my time here. The first step of purification is to forget about the contamination. Then I'll be forced to undergo several procedures that strip me of anything that once was before I am able to reintegrate into lunar society, now as a different person... No longer Kaguya of the Earth.

While humans are impure by the fact of their bodies - it is the memory of the impurity that corrupts us. That's why to us, the flag of the US is equivalent to Chernobylnitsa's Demise. A spot forever marred by impurities, and impossible to reach. Because it's a memory. It's a memory and a proof of humanity.

Lunarians exist as a hivemind, transcended beyond the impurities of humanity; that's why coexistence is impossible. Lunarian stranded on the earth will lose everything that made it pure, now faced with mortality; human stranded on the moon will lose everything that made it impure, now faced with eternity."

Woman fell silent after that for a long time, before she asked out of curiosity.

"I wonder if one of you is a lunarian."

""?!?!?!""

"I jest, but... I can tell that one of you will face great sorrows due to impurities. Please do not make the same mistake as me. Perhaps... It's best to forget about it all.

... Wanna eat some dango?"
