"So it won't be called off even if I had caused your daughter's hospitalisation."
"Please, she's just being dramatic. She shouldn't have ran off without looking onto the road. I'm sure she's still clinging onto memories of him."
"... In any case, with curiosity betraying me, it seems Denjirou isn't interested in her anymore, presumably saying vile things to her."
"That's good. We still want to go through with the merger in order to benefit both families. Besides Yukino needs a little leash to keep her in place now. Being under the influence of that vagrant had done nothing but bad things to happen.
She now cannot even function properly without thinking about that... Person."
"... Understood, I'll try to monitor her behaviour."
And so the meeting was discharged. I felt bad after all of that. Do they not view Yukino as a person. While I agree that this being might be of bad influence, to cage her in like that is inhumane.
And yet I must play out my role, for I am too a restricted being. My parents thought I was too much of a daydreamer. That I need to finally set down on earth. Have a wife, have a job, leave progeny behind.
I've always hated humans. They always looked disgusting to me and acted too brashly. I found myself more attached to the scenery and fauna. And now I end up questioning myself - "Had I loved Yukino?"
While that smile was bright, its flame had died down. I'm once again left with a husk, husk that loathes me with all its broken soul. Have I truly loved her?
Am I have to put on a facade again? Do we have to pretend to love each other?
No, she won't. She will always make her hatred known. Just because I wasn't him. And I'll never be him.
How long... Until she snaps?
