Mahou Chronicles: Clockside ACT 1 - Chapter II

"A new visitor is coming to our village! I repeat: a new visitor is coming to our village!"

Well, that's interesting. It's quite rare to see someone visiting our village. Usually they're high class people coming in to trade or just random merchants that came to sell their wares.

Today is no different... Almost.

I can see a tall man who is seemingly some sort of scholar - typical stuff for some poor sod get curious about some rotten village before getting his stuff stolen in the best case scenario.

But why is there... A kid?

Clad in almost all green, she seems pretty excited despite the gloomy atmosphere of the fellows and the scholar is holding her close.

"Wooooooow! A village! It feels so spacious! I want to run around it!"

"Sol, you can't. We're still technically "guests", so please act appropriately."

Besides my older sister, I have never seen anyone my age in this village, so it is rather surprising to see someone else my age...

"Oh! Ooh! I wanna play with him! Dad! Dad! Please I wanna play with that guy!"

That girl pointed at me.

Shit.

"Sol, it's rude to point at people! And this guy seems rather skittish, so let's approach him slowly, alright?"

Oh fuck, now I'm the centre of their attention.

I look towards other villagers, but they don't even seem to care in the slightest. Thank god my dad is snoozing during the day, or I would be in so much trouble.

"Hey, don't be afraid, alright? My daughter just wants to have friends. Nothing too bad."

"Yeah! Friends!"

"Urgh..."

The "daughter " is practically beaming with excitement, while I, like an idiot, froze in place, unable to move despite how much I really want to run away. The scholar smiled at me.

"I'll let the Sol do the talking. Come on, introduce yourself."

"I'm Sol! I came here with papa for a vacation! Nice to meet you!"

"... N-Nice to meet you too... I'm... "Fortune"."

"Fortune! Fortune! Fortune! I like that! Now, can we play?"

Uh...

"Sol, I still have to watch over you. Despite the fact that we're on a "vacation", this village is full of scary people, no offense, who would want to harm you. I just can't simply let you play with him."

"... I-It's okay... If that's what you're concerned about, I'll keep her safe... Just tell me where you are going to be staying at." I replied, gathering all the courage I could.

But why?

I can tell that this girl is going to pester me to no end

"Oh? Okay then. Please keep it close to the village and don't go running off to the forest. We'll be staying here at this inn, so you can return Sol here when you guys are finished."

"... G-Good... It's not like we're going to be in the forest..."

"Yaaaaaay!!!"

The girl immediately hugged me tightly, jumping up and down. The scholar couldn't help but chuckle at me being manhandled by his beast of a daughter.

"Come on! Come on! Let's play! I'll be down for anything!"

"... We'll play tag around the village centre. You'll be the one chasing me, alright?"

"Okay!"

"Again, don't go running off away from the village!" The scholar yelled before we nodded and started running around like idiots, surely becoming a massive eyesore to the villagers.

But it didn't matter.

The girl is quite energetic, and I have to admit, it's actually quite fun...

Perhaps I missed this more than I thought I did.

And unlike with my sister.

I will not let my eyes off of her.

Because I don't want her to disappear.
