Mahou Chronicles: Clockside ACT 2 - Chapter XIV [Magi Side]

Coastal Region - Gregory...

Type - Voracious, Enthralling...

Presumed size - Around 5 meters...

Casualties - Vena: destroyed, no survivors...

Presumed rank - 3 stars...

I've been a junior cadet of Hunters of Magi for three years, my first order was to subdue a DAEMON of DRIFTING who similarly terrorised a coastal village.

While that daemon took a form of a worn down sailor, from the reports given by the intel corp...

"At first it appears as a lone girl by the weeping willow, that is until you grab its attention, after which it will try to assimilate you by any means necessary. When well fed, it takes the form of a sea monster."

That was the transcription I was given... Yet the archives don't lie.

I heard screams and people being consumed by this foul beast alive, either having their will intact or stripped away by... Something.

Audio recordings are all we have... Perhaps for the better.

There's also this Fungal Witch...

While I have no interest in some old relic of the past, there is this runaway test subject I'm more concerned about.

"The Incident of Ley-216 Mine"

The file that is kept top secret within the Surgiran government's archives.

The incident that could mean the existential crisis for the "humanity enhancement" project.

Subject E-M173.

The rogue enhancement.

The one... Who killed everyone in that mine on that fateful day.

Was it perhaps because of their body being injected with malleable material?

Unlike the rest, they exercised a disconcerting amount of free will during their stay at the HRF's laboratory - which, even when reprimanded...

The only person I can contact is R-U31... One of the few survivors of the Ley-216 incident.

And luck would have it that they would become one of the members of my squad.

They bore at me with their eyes, simply awaiting orders, crossing their arms.

They told me R-U31 was still an imperfect model, having been injected with Rubedo, giving them regenerative abilities, at the cost of also being highly reactive to liquids - but they should serve me well in battle.

"..."

I don't like how they keep staring at me. Looks like they're going to murder me if I'll take too long.

"Uhm... You know that soon we're going on a mission, right?"

"..."

"Sure it's not particularly ideal for you, but given that your... Uhm... "Sibling" might be here, I kind of need your cooperation..."

"..."

"Please, could you at least pretend that you're listening to me?"

"..."

"Urgh, you're so difficult to work with... Anyway, referring to you by a code name is kind of inconvenient for our quick communications given that we're going to engage in a battle... How about, uhm, Rubi?"

For once, their contemptuous gaze narrowed, as if I said something stupid.

"Fine, big guy - you tell me what your name is!"

"... That'll... Suffice."

What the??? They talked???

"Could you... Talk more?"

"No."

Urgh, they're so annoying.

The rabbit-like hair protrusions are kind of cute though... They look like a red bunny.

Well... Guess we need to get going for the ride. It'll take us one day until we arrive at the safe coast and another one on foot to get to the place of the incident.

...

Don't tell me I need to pack their things as well for them.
