"Kkh... I hate summer..."
"Really? I think it's pretty neat. Being able to wear whatever you want, seeing the life spring at full, just being outside in general. It's good for you, you know?"
The summer is encroaching, and Yukino is at her most miserable. We ended up becoming friends after all as fellow outcasts - and I suppose I needed to have a more calming presence near me.
Still, it's funny that her name isn't YUKI-no (雪乃).
Currently we're going shopping for additional stationeries for our assignments.
"Ahh, screw that! That stupid humidity can drive itself into the wall for all I care! I can drink supplements anyway."
"Hey, why don't we buy some ice-cream on the way?"
"Wha? No! I'm not a kid! Ice-creams are for kids!"
... Huh?
"Whoa, starting to mature, are we?" I tease and it's my first time seeing Yukino be this flustered.
"N-No! It's just... Aren't desserts TOO childish? You know, eventually people like us stop eating that sort of stuff, or if they do - they usually eat it at special occasions..."
"Food's a food. Besides, it's not like desserts in general are specifically made for kids, unlike your fairytales. A little bit of icy sweetness did not kill anyone... Unless you're allergic."
"I'm not allergic!"
Mad Yukino is pretty cute.
"Okay, I'll grab a melon flavour - you?"
"H-Huh??? Um, chocolate! You can't go wrong with chocolate."
"I thought you didn't like sweets~"
"I still know what that tastes like, asshole."
Spicy little thing. Also did she just swear? Haha.
"One chocolate ice-cream coming up. Also, how improper of you."
"I'll shove that propriety up your nostrils, Den-ji-rou..."
"Can you keep your quarrels away from the store?" The clerk gathered up the courage to speak up and we awkwardly scuttle away from the ice-cream stand.
Yukino's face turns slight pink as she averts her eyes.
"Sorry about that... And thanks for the ice-cream."
"Eh don't mention it, it's proper for the guy to treat a fine lady such as yourself. Now, shall we go buy those stationeries? I don't think your parents would appreciate you hanging out with a broke arse like me."
"Hehe~, yeah, let's do it."
In that moment, I felt like I have come closer to her heart. While she was a very inquisitive sort - she still tried to poise herself as a woman of status. Buying something so ordinary such as ice-cream had cracked that shell she was trying to put up. Food's a food after all.
And of course she bought all the cutting edge stationery supplies.
