"How's your novel going, Kohaku?"
"Fine as ever, dad."
Two inhuman beings inhabit a rather luxurious apartment. One was taller, wiser and mature; while the other was short, knowledgeable and young. The taller figure - "the father" had recently rescued the shorter figure as he calls it his "child" Father had sought the feelings that humans feel by default. Parental love. The love that the parent feels for their offspring. Unfortunately for the father, he was incapable of feeling; to him, feelings were too alien and they must be taught before he could pretend to feel them.
He thought that by conceiving and raising a child, he would learn how to feel parental love... But it was too late for him. The child had grown significantly from his untimely departure in his eyes and attempts of reconnecting with them felt too shallow for both parties.
The father at least tries to make his child feel at home now. Maybe, deep down, he really does treasure his kid
The child on the other hand, couldn't care less. It has been hurt so much by life that a father's attempts feel just an opportunity more than anything. Father has made them dinner? Great, now they got to eat this time, even if they eat the recommended three meals per day. New clothes each season? Great, now they get to experiment with their clothing style a bit more. It couldn't see those normal things as status quo, rather it's something that is a big exception due to the abuse it received from that wretched ghost. It felt... Rather bored in this lifestyle.
But there was one thing that the child took liking to. Writing novels.
Based on their experience, they went under the pseudonym "Takayama Ichinose", and wrote numerous horror stories. They weren't best sellers, but they were popular enough to make a stable income from it.
And now they're busy writing what is essentially an autobiography disguised as a horror story about the deadly cult that has been repeatedly doing human sacrifices. The child's amulet was rumbling. It was the same wretched ghost that has been tormenting them, now used as a lifeline for the child, as its mortality is directly affected by the ghost. If the ghost ceases to exist, it will perish too. And that ghost was not happy about the child revealing details about their time on that accursed island. But unfortunately, due to being sealed in an amulet by a powerful spell, it can't do much. Father walked away shortly after, which allowed the child to think. Their father... Is he really a good person? Sure, he did go through great lengths to save them...
But killing their friend was really worth it?
