This was our off-day; my friend, ■■■■■, was sleeping peacefully on the surface of the sea, while I was smoking my pipe as usual. My ability while powerful, it's not something I can just "stop" using. I thought that during the stormy night, no one in their right mind would sail... How wrong I was.
I didn't notice anything until it was too late. I heard him shout "This is where we're going to settle!" and when I snuck behind the foliage... That sword pierced my friend's heart. This blade only seems short from where it was driven in, it was way longer; longer than any sword I have seen in my pathetic life. And their leader was a tall man, almost two meters tall; that's why he plunged that accursed sword with ease. And with that, everyone celebrated and started to build their abhorrent community here.
I was devastated. Their disgusting clamors still echo in my mind. At that moment, I lost my only true companion in my life - someone who I held so dear to my heart. All I could do is just watch as they kept desecrating my friend's corpse. I couldn't fight them off; every time I ran into them, they overpowered me and continued to be disappointed with a lack of "money" as they put it. They stole my pipe on multiple occasions and I was somehow even lower on the ladder than in the sea. I hated that miserable existence, yet I clung onto life because if I return to the sea, even temporarily, I will be executed for my crimes.
And when I held my hope that at least this island will eventually sink, I saw the ground inexplicably appear under my friend... And I saw their leader's true colours. He was no human at all, he was ■■■■■ who defected from his lineage! A mere disgusting coward who murdered my friend for his own benefit.
He was revered as the saviour and even got deified, because of course those puny humans would see that fraud this way. Yet I couldn't do anything. When I confronted him, he fractured my shell and was ready to kill me, until he decided to spare me, grievously injured and forced into silence. All I could do is to smoke, causing the fog to appear in hopes of making them realise it was a horrible idea to settle here.
Yet they adapted. Their community flourished and my power was doing more harm than good as it only led more people arriving on this accursed island. Many years of harassment, many years of grief, many years of waiting... Waiting for a miracle to happen.
...
And it happened. These humans, losing their fear of god, executed a pathetic priest which angered that snake, causing a drought, then flood to occur. The spirit of the priest returned with vengeance and now I finally got the opportunity to get back at those who wronged me and my friend. I used the priest's image to scare people off and it worked to great effect. Some even suffered a heart attack which gave me a free fresh meal in many years of scavenging. Of course my efforts were claimed to be of priest's and that snake's, but I didn't mind. They also kill humans left and right after all, which makes my illusions even more effective.
I suppose I created a symbiotic relationship with the people I hate the most, but that doesn't mean I'll ever forgive them for their actions.
And that sacred sword will always serve as a reminder of my failure.
...
I feel like I'm being stalked; someone must've caught onto me, just like that sea deserter
